Accommodation

Accommodation at MODUL University Vienna

MU Students live in both private and uni-arranged accommodation.  Like most other Austrian universities, MU does not have its own student residence. Instead, MODUL has a contract with two local private student accommodation providers.  One is called WIHAST and the other is called BASE 19.  Although students can apply to either provider on their own, doing so often results in being placed on waiting lists.  MU’s cooperation instead allows room booking directly through the university.  This results in an overall quicker process, and as long as deadlines are followed, students can be guaranteed a single room.

WIHAST:
WEB: http://wihast.at/index.en.html
ADDRESS: Brigittenauer Lände 224-228, 1200 Vienna, Austria
WIHAST is a student housing provider in Vienna with dormitories throughout the city. MU students are placed exclusively at the complex in the 20th district (closest to MU), resulting in a ca. 35 minute commute to campus via public transportation. The immediate area around WIHAST is industrial, but since it is linked to public transport very well, one can get to the city center easily in about 15 minutes.  It is also located quite close to the Danube Canal, a great place to go jogging, etc. The 20th district complex has a variety of buildings with standard dorm rooms.

  • The dorm rooms are ca.12m2 and private, though they are within a double unit resulting in a shared entry room, bathroom, and small ‘cold kitchen’ (sink and refrigerator, but no stove/oven) with one other student.
  • The dorm rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair, and closet.  Students are expected to bring in all other items like televisions, bedding, irons, etc.
  • Each floor in each building has a larger, communal, fully-equipped kitchen for cooking, etc.
  • The complex also contains laundry faculties and other communal areas like a fitness room and social room.

PRICE: Ca. €250/month, including all utilities (and cable TV), except internet, which is 5€/month extra.
CONTRACT: A one year contract is signed, but one may cancel at any time so long two months’ written notice apply.
AVAILABILITY: Availability is guaranteed so long reservation requests are sent at least two months prior to the semester begin.

BASE 19:

WEB: http://www.base19.at/44/?L=1
ADDRESS: Gymnasiumstraße 85, 1190 Vienna, Austria
Base 19 is a housing provider in Vienna in the 19th district.  The complex has 7 buildings, some of which are currently undergoing a multi-phase renovation. MU therefore currently receives only a limited number of rooms on a changing basis each semester.  The immediate area around Base 19 is a residential and commercial mix.  The complex borders a neighborhood with grocery shops and restaurants, etc., and a large park is also nearby. Base 19 is linked well to public transportation; it takes ca. 30 minutes to get to MU and about 15 minutes to get to the city center.

  • The dorm rooms vary in size—from 12m2 individual rooms to 25m2 mini studios.  Some rooms are on floors with communal kitchens, while others have fully-functional kitchenettes within them.
  • Since the allotment of rooms given to MU by Base 19 changes each semester, please ask about the current offer for your intended semester to get the most up-to-date information.

PRICE: Between €275/month and €455/month depending on room category and length of contract. Base 19 typically charges a lower monthly rent for a 12 month contract and a higher monthly rent for a semester contract.  These prices include all utilities and internet, but exclude cable television.
CONTRACT: MU students sign either semester-long or year-long contracts. Cancellations are subject to contract terms.
AVAILABILITY: Availability is guaranteed so long reservation requests are sent at least three months prior to the semester begin.

How to Book a Room:

  • If you are an official MU student (either exchange, BBA, MSc, or MBA), MODUL University Vienna’s Student Service Center will gladly help you further with accommodation booking.  The SSC will update you with the current housing offers at the time of your inquiry and guide you through the reservation process.
  • When an accommodation reservation is made, your details will be sent directly to the housing provider, whose office will send you a contract and payment details.
  • Please note: contracts with both housing providers typically begin at the start of the calendar month and pro-rated contracts are not typically issued. The contract you signed is between you and the housing provider, not between you and MU.  Therefore, after the reservation process, MU has a reduced role with regard to your accommodation.

ROOMS WILL BE RESERVED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS!
