Prof. Dagmar Lund-Durlacher of MODUL University served as chair of the jury when this year's EDEN award was given to the Seelentium recreation area, a region located south-east of the Inn river. EDEN stands for European Destinations of Excellence, and is a project promoting sustainable tourism development models across the European Union.

MODUL University was awarded 2nd place in the category 'structural foundations' encouraging sustainable development at the 2010 Sustainability Award presented by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research for its Sustainability Committee.

During the 40th conference of the Travel and Tourism Research Association (ttra) in Honolulu, Hawaii, Prof. Karl Wöber was presented with the Charles R. Goeldner Article of Excellence Award.
This prestigious award, named for the long-time editor of the Journal of Travel Research, recognizes annually the most significant work in the journal. This year, the jury acknowledges the contribution by Prof. Wöber and his co-authors Zheng Xiang (University of North Texas) and Daniel R. Fesenmaier (Temple University) on the Representation of the Online Tourism Domain in Search Engine.
TourCert – Certificate | CSR-Tourism-Certified

On March 11, the former federal environment minister, Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer, awarded the new certificate “CSR-Tourism-Certified” of the “forum anders reisen” (far – literally translated forum traveling differently) to the first 15 tour operators for their sustainability achievements at the ITB Berlin.
The acronym CSR stands for Corporate Social Responsibility and circumscribes businesses’ contributions to sustainable development that go beyond legal requirements. A guideline to CSR reporting was developed by “forum anders reisen” under the management of “Kontaktstelle for Umwelt & Entwicklung” (KATE – literally translated Contact Point for Environment and Development) and a European network of tourism experts. This guarantees the quality and comparability of the CSR reports in tourism for the first time ever.

This year’s “Best Ph.D. Workshop Paper Award” has been presented to Clemens Költringer from MODUL University Vienna for his work on Information Needs of City Travellers – Investigating the Implications of Consumers’ Information Search and Actual Travel Behaviour.
The PhD Workshop at the 16th International Conference on Information Technology and Travel & Tourism (IFITT | ENTER conference) is a platform for doctoral students undertaking research in the area of Information and Communication Technology in Travel and Tourism.
Election Monitor Wins Social Media Category of the Austrian National Award for Multimedia and e-Business

The US Election 2008 Web Monitor has been awarded the First Prize in the category 'Online Communities, Web 2.0 and Social Networks' of the Austrian National Award for Multimedia and e-Business. After tracking candidate performance during the primaries and continuously refining the analyses, the development team took this opportunity to re-launch the Web site at www.ecoresearch.net/election2008. The project now focuses on the presidential candidates and their running mates, supplements the analytical tools with semantic and geospatial interfaces, and includes two social media applications built upon the Facebook platform.
