MU contributes to inaugural Culinary Tourism Conference

On March 3rd and 4th, faculty of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management attended the first European Culinary Tourism Conference held at the FHWien University of Applied Sciences.

Over the two-day conference, more than 100 participants discussed the importance of the culinary tourist market for destinations. In his keynote speech, Dr. Michael Hall from Canterbury University raised the issue of scope, questioning how many culinary tourists a destination can cope with. Dr. Jaksa Kivela from Hong Kong Polytechnic University went one step further, posing questions on whether we should actually be bothered with the term 'culinary tourism', and thus took a historical perspective of the gourmet traveler.

MU Vienna’s contribution to this conference was delivered by our 2010 BBA graduate Sandra Staniek, who presented the results of her bachelor thesis.  Under the catchy title “Entrecôte vs. Sausage Roll”, Sandra explored the importance of food and beverage offerings at the tourist destination, Kahlenberg. Please visit the conference homepage for Sandra’s presentation and others, as well as a nice selection of conference impressions.
