MU faculty member Xavier Matteucci has just returned from Maribor, Slovenia where he participated in the 4th Advances in Tourism Marketing Conference (ATMC) from September 6th to September 8th.

The theme of ATMC 2011 was “Transforming Experiences: Tourism Marketing from both Sides of the Counter”, which put emphasis on the co-productive and co-creative processes involved in tourism services. This year's conference benefited from 53 presentations including 4 keynote speeches by Stephen Vargo, Professor of Marketing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa; Sandra Carvão, Communications Manager at the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO); Frédéric Dimanche, Professor of Marketing and Head of the Center for Tourism Management at the Skema Business School in Sophia-Antipolis, in the South of France; and Terry Stevens, Managing Director of the Swansea based, international leisure and tourism consultancy, Stevens & Associates.

Outstanding paper awards were presented to six attendees including Xavier for his article “Photo-elicitation: exploring tourist experiences with researcher found images”.

On the last evening of the conference, the venue for the next ATMC to take place in 2013 was revealed: Vilamoura, a resort town in the South of Portugal. For more details of the 2011 conference, please visit http://www.institute.si/atmc-2011/best-of-atmc-2011/
