Fujitsu and MODUL University Vienna Collaborate on Green IT Research and Education

Fujitsu Symposium

Vienna, 06 May 2010 – As of now Fujitsu and MODUL University Vienna will be working alongside each other towards sustainability and effective environmental protection. The goal of this collaboration is to combine management and IT knowledge with research insights to incorporate Green IT into state-of-the-art university education. This information will not only be conveyed in the MBA in New Media Technology and Management program that is currently offered, but also in a forthcoming environmental Master of Science" (MSc) program already under accreditation.

MU Vienna’s interdisciplinary study programs are tightly linked to active research work. Particular attention is paid to the complex subject field of sustainability and environmental protection, as demonstrated by current projects such as the Climate Change Collaboratory and the ECOresearch Network.

Social and environmental change require an interdisciplinary approach, answering research questions from multiple perspectives. This is why MU Vienna is particularly pleased to have Fujitsu Technology Solutions, with their profound expertise in the area of Green IT, on its side. The exchange of knowledge and research projects that are carried out together will help integrate theory with practical applications. Fujitsu’s Competence Center for Virtualization and Climate Protection provides valuable knowledge and experience in Green IT products and solutions. This knowledge will be shared with MODUL University Vienna in the form of guest lectures and information days. Students from the university will also be offered the opportunity to work together with the experts from Fujitsu to further develop the range of services offered in the area of Green IT such as optimization services.

“In the last few years it has been shown that it is possible to drastically reduce the energy consumption and improve the carbon footprint of many electrical products through advanced technologies. In the long run, this will not suffice. For this reason we are working towards comprehensive green infrastructures, which will be implemented in businesses by means of optimization services and cloud computing. Through the collaboration with MODUL University Vienna and my participation as a member of the New Media Corporate Advisory Board we share valuable know-how. This will not only contribute to the development of optimized and energy efficient IT systems, but also complement the range of courses offered at MODUL University Vienna,” explains Wolfgang Horak, Senior Vice President SEE Fujitsu Technology Solutions.
