Sentiment Quiz
Sentiment Quiz is an interactive real-time quiz in the tradition of games with a purpose. The multi-platform social media application is available for Facebook and as a widget for iGoogle and Netvibes.
Together with Election Monitor 2008, Sentiment Quiz won the Social Media Category of the Austrian National Award for Multimedia and e-Business!
Participants evaluate whether terms from a dictionary express positive or negative sentiment (the yellow exclamation mark reports terms that do not make sense). They earn points for matching answers, but lose them if their opinions differ from their opponents' answers.
The built-in notification system and real-time statistics on the users' progress help engage users and leverage the wisdom of the crowds for scientific purposes. Besides improving algorithms for automated sentiment detection, it is possible to analyze information diffusion in social networks.
Acknowledgment. Based on the SOC Framework, the applications have been jointly developed by Walter Rafelsberger (lead development), Gerhard Wohlgenannt (content aggregation and annotation), Reinhard Fischer (evaluation), Clemens Költringer (evaluation and promotion), Johannes Liegl (conceptualization), and Arno Scharl (project lead). Sentiment Quiz is an initiative of IDIOM (Information Diffusion across Interactive Online Media) and RAVEN (Relation Analysis and Visualization for Evolving Networks), two research projects funded by the FIT-IT Semantic Systems Program.
