What are the objectives? The MBA in Public Governance and Management is an internationally oriented program with a strong focus on good governance practices of institutions operating in national and international frameworks.
The shift from hierarchic government practices to cooperative and collaborative governance procedures and the recent changes of the political, social and economic conditions for public management and public administration require political actors to conduct processes of change and development in a systematic and responsible way, and to apply principles of good governance to their work within different regions and organizations.
Therefore, this study program aims to convey theoretical knowledge about governance concepts in a national and global perspective, as well as practical skills in management, public administration, and strategies for development and sustainability. It also offers the opportunity for individual specialization in more specific areas of public governance or public management issues such as sustainable development, economic development strategies, collaborative processes or public tendering and public sector marketing.
Who are the target groups? The program at MODUL University Vienna is mainly targeted at people with professional experience. These may include:
- Mid-career civil servants
- Teaching staff of civil service colleges and universities
- Staff of consultant firms
- Staff of international organizations and NGOs which have programs focusing on public governance and management issues
- Staff of private companies such as utilities which do a lot of partnership working with public agencies
The MBA can be studied as a regular or as an extended program. The regular option is organized over four terms. A short summer break allows graduation after 18 months. The extended program is completed after 24 months of study. The program is especially designed for people working full-time. Internationally recognized scholars convey their expertise in the form of blocked units, which are taught in English and mainly take place on weekends (regular: approx. 4-6 days every month; extended: approx. 5-6 days every second month or, alternatively, 2-3 days every month).
