[1]Together with the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO [2]), European Travel Commission (ETC [3]) and European Cities Marketing (ECM [4]), MODUL University Vienna promoted a two-days event on tourism statistics and strategic marketing planning, hold on September 11 and 12, 2008.
Benchmarking tourism destinations with the Management Information System TourMIS (www.tourmis.info [5]) has been the prevalent topic on the first day, when Professor Karl Wöber, President of MODUL University Vienna, trained managers of tourism boards in Europe on how to use a marketing information system effectively.
The second day saw international guest speakers from leading tourism organizations, like VisitBirtain and TourEspana, alternating on the podium to share knowledge and best practices on strategic planning for the tourism industry. Premise for the meeting was the presentation of the “Handbook on Tourism Forecasting Methodologies”, shortly to be published by the European Travel Commission (www.visiteurope.com [6]) and the UN World Tourism Organization (www.world-tourism.org [7]).
For two days 80 delegates, amongst managers, academics, consultants and representatives of governments and international organizations, coming from 35 different destinations in Europe, were hosted by MODUL University Vienna, which confirms its role as leading platform for the international tourism industry.
