The Young Hotelier Award is organized by the General Managers Council (GMC) representing the five star luxury hotels at Vienna. The award is aiming at fostering young hoteliers by training them and awarding the most talented one.

Ms. Wei Shi, student of the MU Vienna MBA in Tourism Management program, was selected as the winner of the Scholarship of Hope 2009. She has been selected at the discretion by the Committee for the Scholarship of Hope which acts as a reviewing body of students' project proposals.
The 5th ECM & ETC Joint TourMIS Users’ Workshop took place at MODUL University, in Vienna, September 3-4, 2009. The 81 delegates attending the event represented city and national tourist organizations, universities and companies from the hospitality and tourism industry from 25 different countries in Europe.



The Capacity Building Programme in Tourism Statistics has been initiated by the World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) Department of Statistics and Economic Measurement of Tourism to promote the integration of tourism statistics within the sphere of United Nation’s members. The aim of the programme is to foster the worldwide comparability of tourism statistics and the macroeconomic analysis of tourism activities. The further goal is to uphold the relevance of internationally agreed standards and, in particular, those of the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) framework for the measurement of tourism related activities.
During the 40th conference of the Travel and Tourism Research Association (ttra) in Honolulu, Hawaii, Prof. Karl Wöber was presented with the Charles R. Goeldner Article of Excellence Award.
This prestigious award, named for the long-time editor of the Journal of Travel Research, recognizes annually the most significant work in the journal. This year, the jury acknowledges the contribution by Prof. Wöber and his co-authors Zheng Xiang (University of North Texas) and Daniel R. Fesenmaier (Temple University) on the Representation of the Online Tourism Domain in Search Engine.
Prof. Dagmar Lund-Durlacher and Anja Hergesell participated in this year’s BEST EN Think Tank on „The Importance of Values in Sustainable Tourism“. The four day conference (June 15-18) took place on the Singapore campus of James Cook University and featured keynote speeches, research presentations and break-out sessions devoted to the development of an online wiki on the conference theme. Dagmar and Anja presented the research findings of a study on the female workforce in the Austrian hospitality market.
From June 30 until July 1, 2009, Anja Hergesell represented MU Vienna at the first conference on European Universities for a sustainable and competitive tourism.
MODUL University Vienna has just recently launched three fanpages on the social networking platform Facebook. Besides a general representation of the University on Facebook, there is a page for the Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management and the Master of Business Administration in New Media Technology and Management programs.
