Arriving in Vienna
Visa and Residency Permit
A visa may be required to travel or study in Austria, depending on your nationality. If you need a visa, make sure to apply for it before you come to Austria since visas can only be issued by Austrian embassies or consulates abroad. A residency permit entitles you to stay for longer than 6 months and can be applied for from either abroad or from within Austria. For detailed information about visas and residency permits for studying in Austria, please visit the OeAD Website.
For further questions, please contact the International Officer.
How to get to MODUL University Vienna when you are in Vienna
Use public transport to get to MODUL University Vienna. Bus line 38A departs from U4's underground station Heiligenstadt and arrives in 25 minutes at Kahlenberg where MODUL University resides.
Arrival in Vienna
The following options to travel to Vienna are available:
- Arriving By Plane
Once you have arrived at the Vienna Airport, please go to the ”Mazur” counter (straight ahead when exiting the customs area) and ask for the airport taxi (”Flughafentaxi”) for € 25,-. Insist on a special taxi for € 25,- (including luggage)! In this case you will have to wait approximately 10-15 minutes until the taxi will pick you up. If you choose to take a standard taxi, it will cost about € 44. Be aware that this counter offers other transportation services (i.e.: limousine with driver) as well.
You also have the possibility to take the train to Wien-Mitte, and from there public transport. There are fast trains (CAT) at the rate of € 8 and the so-called Schnellbahn, which takes a bit longer, but is cheaper. The journey by CAT will take you 16 minutes. Trains usually leave every half-hour. - Arriving By Train
There are three train stations in Vienna:
”Westbahnhof” (trains from the West, from Germany and Salzburg),
”Südbahnhof” (trains from the South, from Graz, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia and Greece), and
”Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof” (trains from the North, from Prague).
After arrival at the station we encourage you to use one of the taxis waiting outside the station.
Opening an account at Austrian banks
Some Austrian Representation Authorities require evidence of an Austrian bank connection. We recommend the following procedure:
Create a so-called “Hold draft”. This is a remittance of money from a bank in your home country to an Austrian bank. You are free to choose any Austrian bank. We would, however, recommend:
- Erste Bank (Swift Code 20111)
- Bank Austria (Swift Code 12000; BIC BKAUATWW)
as there are numerous branch offices throughout Vienna.
Once you are in Vienna, take the confirmation of your enrollment at MODUL University Vienna, go to the nearest branch office of the Austrian bank you chose and deposit the money you have remitted from your home country to a student account. These accounts are normally free of charge for students.
You will be assisted in all these matters by the Student Service Center of MODUL University Vienna!
