Alumni Spotlight - Mohammed Ahmed, BBA '10

Mohammed Ahmed began his studies in Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Tourism and Hospitality Management at MODUL University Vienna, and was a member of the first BBA graduating class of 2010. He currently holds the position of Director of Domestic and International Tourism at the Egyptian Tourism Authority in Cairo, Egypt.

''As an MU student representative for two years, I actively participated in the university social life, and engaged in extra-curricular activities in and outside the university such as organizing student events and promoting MODUL University at the ITB Berlin Tourism Fair. I really miss the campus life - the annual BBQ party at Kahlenberg, ski trips, football tournaments - overall, my three years in the BBA program at MU were among the best years of my life!

I chose MODUL University Vienna in part because it was taught and conducted in English, the official language of international tourism business. I consider myself lucky to have had the great opportunity to live in the beautiful city of Vienna, and study at a leading international institution with a specialized Bachelor degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management.

At university I learned how significant it is to work in a team and how real-life business works through the practical courses. I enjoyed listening to the many invited guest speakers who represented a wide range of industry professionals, leaders and mangers.

As part of my MU education, I did an internship at a leading destination management company - DMC for Austria & the European Union. I was involved in numerous fairs, conferences and events, executed e-marketing projects such as the use of Web 2.0 technologies in promoting Schönbrunn Palace online, and reached the top 10% of teams in the global Google Online Marketing Challenge. This allowed me to gain practical experience in online marketing, and thus I became an expert in managing state-of-the-art online marketing campaigns and co-authored a study on “the Success Factors of Social Media Marketing in European Tourism Destinations“.

Studying at MODUL is the right choice for those who are looking forward to having professional careers after graduation, and it is also the best place for those who wish to continue their academic future. The academic experience that I gained at MU developed my writing skills to write my MSc dissertation, which I succeed in turning into a book entitled ‘’Tourism and Travel in Ancient Egypt’’, recently published by LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing. It meets the interests not only of Egyptologists, and tourism and history scholars, but also for a broader readership interested in comparing and recognizing the differences and similarities between travel in ancient times and now.

I am a tourism specialist and promote events through online and offline marketing and distribution channels. I have previous experience in the Department of Online Marketing at the Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA). Prior to joining ETA, I worked as freelance tour guide and travel manager at an Egyptian travel agency. I also worked as a cabinet member of the Tourism Minister, responsible for conducting market research and marketing plan. Previously, I was Assistant Director of Public Relations at the Egyptian Tourism Authority where I was responsible for organizing formal visits, conferences and media sessions.

Currently, I work as a Director of Domestic and International Tourism at the Egyptian Tourism Authority, where I manage staff, organize events, bringing new, innovative ideas and turn them into real professional experiences.''

MU congratulates Mohammed on his new book and continued success!
