Around the world in 30 recipes with the MU Community Cookbook

MODUL University Vienna is proud to present the MU Community Cookbook, a collection of thirty original recipes from our diverse body of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends. The MU Community Cookbook celebrates our international university community with its many diverse tastes and talents and showcases our knowledge and expertise as the leading private university in tourism and hospitality education in Austria.

Since 2007, MODUL University Vienna has been continuing the tradition of excellence in education and service that has been synonymous with the MODUL brand for over 100 years. Our diverse university community is composed of over 600 students, faculty, and staff from over 60 different countries and each and every one of us is a key ingredient to our success.

The selection of recipes featured in the MU Community Cookbook reflects our deep commitment to our core university values of diversity and respect while also aptly demonstrating our curiosity about the world and our insatiable appetite for life. While many of the recipes included in the MU Community Cookbook are multigenerational family favorites, others represent a bold departure from tradition in keeping with the contemporary educational practices at MU.

The inspiration for the cookbook came from our vibrant community page which is alive with mouthwatering Instagram and Facebook posts of meals at favorite restaurants, forays into home cooking, and recipes we aspire to. We are also proud to include interviews with alumni and friends active in the world of gastronomy who have put their education and experience at MU to use in cafes, patisseries, wine bars, restaurants, fitness, and concept stores around Vienna.

Working together with the MU community to produce our first cookbook was a joyous experience that has proven we are a community that is not only hungry for knowledge and success, but also for great food and memorable experiences. In the process, we have also widened our community to include generous local sponsors who share our vision of an inclusive and delicious world! The warm support of Druckerei Jentzsch, Babette’s Spice and Books for Cooks, and Ja! Natürlich was critical to our success.

In addition to the excitement we feel at MU surrounding our first cookbook, we also hope that the MU Community Cookbook will have reverberations beyond our university community. At this year’s International Day, we debuted our cookbook and donated all proceeds to the Magdas Hotel, an enterprising social hotel in Vienna that trains and employs former refugees and asylum seekers in tourism and hotel operations, and Orient Line Vienna, a musical group composed of six refugees from Algeria, Iraq, and Syria who sang and danced their way into our hearts at our annual celebration of cultural diversity.

Whether it acts as a source of inspiration for similar projects at other like-minded institutions or as a beacon of the importance of community building, diversity, and social responsibility that is at the core of life and learning at MU, we hope that everyone will support and enjoy our first MU Community Cookbook!
