Asst. Prof. Karl Weinmayer's fintech startup enters Austria’s Next Top Start-Up 2018 Competition

Karl Weinmayer, Assistant Professor at Modul University Vienna, not only researches in the fields of social Finance, impact investing and risk management and teaches Financial Management and Corporate Finance at MU, he is also the Head of Business Development of the Fintech (financial technology) start-up FINcredible, which is developing digital solutions in the area of credit risk analysis using bank account data, based on the new EU Payment Services Directive 2.

This start-up has garnered national attention – it was recently accepted into the Top 10 of the well-known Austria’s Next Top Start-Up 2018 Competition hosted by A1 and Futurezone.at.

FINcredible was founded in 2017 by a team of data scientists, researchers and financial economists from Modul University Vienna, WU Vienna and IMC Krems, including Dr. Alexander Eisl, Dr. Stephan Gasser, Christian Ochs, MSc and Karl Weinmayer, PhD. Since then, the team has been further strengthened by Dipl.-Ing. Yon Serbal and Valentina Gasser, BSc in the areas of IT and data protection and is also supported by the Vienna Mentoring Group (VIEMEG) as Advisory Team.

Their first product – the FINcredible MietCheck – is a fully digital solution to verify the credit worthiness of tenants (private and corporate) within 2 minutes.

“We want to become the trustworthy intermediary that helps to form healthy, sustainable relationships between the parties engaging in long-term financial commitments. In order to achieve this goal, we strongly prioritize the data protection of our users, and we are very glad that the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) shifts the focus towards this subject across all industries.’’

‘’We built the FINcredible MietCheck to be the ideal tool in terms of speed, safety and information value for conducting financial assessments in the rental housing market, a market where financial assessments have not changed much over the last 20 years.” explains Dr. Weinmayer.

We wish Dr. Weinmayer and his team the best of luck in Austria’s Next Top Start-Up 2018 Competition!
