BSc student Lukas Stangl is making waves in new band 'The Oceans'

MU’s own Lukas Stangl, a second-year student of the Bachelor of Science in International Management program, is making waves as a member of the up and coming band The Oceans. Stangl has been making music with his current band members and long-time high school friends, Sebastian Klein and Christoph Martin, since 2012 when they belonged to a five-piece alternative rock band named Delayed. Though Delayed parted ways in 2014 when two members chose to pursue other interests, the experience paved the way for The Oceans who continued to experiment with electronic and pop music in its wake.

“Since then we have been trying to build up a completely new concept of making music; we listen to all different kinds of music because we are constantly searching for new inspiration but we prefer electronic and pop based music,” says Stangl, the drummer of The Oceans .

The Oceans recently released their first single, “Holding Out For A Dream”, to high praise. Stangl hopes the song will inspire others “to believe in their dreams and never give up no matter what”. The industrious band has plans to release its next single at the end of the year and is also working on writing and producing new songs for an upcoming album.

United by their passion for music, The Oceans also have a unique understanding of the music business that will undoubtedly help them as they rise to the top of the charts. “My study program helps me understand the basics of international business concepts and skills that are very relevant in the music business,” says Stangl who joined MU in 2015 and is pursuing his education parallel to a career in music.

We can’t wait to hear more from The Oceans and if you can’t wait either, be sure to visit their website for the latest news, like them on Facebook, and check them out September 24th at the Republic in Salzburg, the city where the band got its start!
