Degrowth Vienna 2020 Conference

Degrowth, simply put, means a conscious, just, equitable and democratic downscaling of production and consumption which aims at the well-being for all.

"Degrowth Vienna 2020 – Strategies for Social-Ecological transformation” is an online event that will take place from May 29th to June 1st. While many previous discussions focused around the reasons why a degrowth society is necessary and desirable and what it is, this event goes one step further by asking how such a society can be established.

The conference brings together practitioners, artists, activists, civil society actors and scientists, who want to integrate different kinds of existing expertise and elaborate on promising approaches to transform the economy in a socially just and ecologically viable way.
The conference will have a participatory design, including a thorough documentation process that will generate concrete outcomes for the degrowth movement and research society.

MODUL University Vienna is one of the official co-hosts and sponsors of Degrowth Vienna 2020 Conference. Members of our faculty, in particular Christian Kerschner and Gabriel Trettel Silva from the Department of Sustainability, Governance, and Methods as well as a number of MU students, are actively participating in the organization of the sustainability event of the year in Vienna.
