Dutch students spend International Week at MU

From March 2nd-6th Modul University played host to nearly sixty visiting bachelor students from The University of Applied Sciences ZUYD in Heerlen, The Netherlands. Lidija Lalicic, Researcher and Lecturer at MU and HSZUYD alumna organized the week of activities and events after giving a guest lecture at her alma mater about co-creation and social media with a focus on Vienna. Her talk got the students so excited about MU and Vienna that they started to brainstorm and found a way to integrate a visit to Vienna into an ongoing program.

Every year HSZUYD has an ‘international week’ where they interact with international universities around the globe with different activities, usually via internet. However, Lidija and the team from HSZUYD decided to make it a real international week and bring the students by bus to Vienna to interact firsthand with MU and our students.

The ZUYD group are studying Facility Management with majors in either Event and Leisure management, Sport Facility Management and Consumer Service Management, so there are a number of similarities in the curricula with MU’S own Bachelor programs.

Together with MU students in Lidija’s course "Marketing Research Empirical Project" discussions were held on how to do research, which research projects they are involved in, and what the future of marketing research will look like. They had the chance for a unique exploration of Vienna while engaged in research activities, surveying pedestrians in Vienna’s inner city on the mobile usage of tourists. Afterwards they performed an analysis and presented exciting video pitches about their findings on their final day in Vienna.

Of course, there was time for extracurricular activities too, including a fun football match between ZUYD and MU took, an informal mingle, and the chance to experience Vienna’s vibrant nightlife.

‘’It was great pleasure to welcome Applied Sciences University HSZUYD at MU,’ says Lidija, ‘’and to host a variety of learning experiences to discover the MU community and Vienna; all in all a successful and productive week!’’
