Modulians Stefanie Repnik (BSc in International Management) and Alina Wehner (BBA Tourism, Hotel Management and Operations) recently started an online mentorship program with the Hong Kong-based Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

“I am working with the Learning & Development Department of the Landmark Oriental Hong Kong Hotel. As I have always been interested in learning more about how to communicate with, motivate and develop other people, this mentorship program is the perfect opportunity for me to accomplish this", Stefanie explains.

"My expectations for this program are to gain more knowledge of the hotel industry, get insights of my mentor´s, Mr Chan’s, experiences as well as get a view of the “world outside of the campus”.

Asked whether the participation in the mentorship program would negatively interfere with her studies, Stefanie has a clear answer: “No. As the meetings are more spontaneous, it’s easier for me to find a day where I don’t have any classes or a lot of work to do. Since I can access all my due dates for assignments or quizzes on Moodle in advance, I can prepare myself and make a schedule where the mentorship program won’t interfere with my studies.

I am very thankful for this great opportunity and would recommend anyone to take the chance in doing something similar whenever they can.”

Modulian Alina Wehner (BBA Tourism, Hotel Management and Operations) also quickly realized the enormous benefits of taking part in the program:

“I decided to take part in the mentorship program as working with the general hotel manager at the Landmark Oriental Hong Kong gives me an insightful perspective on the day-to-day operative tasks. I can grow not only personally but also professionally as the ongoing guidance gives me an understanding of the formal and informal structures of a big and successful business.

I expect that the tasks I am given will be challenging and will require critical argumentation.

I am looking forward to the next six months and to developing my managerial skills. Planning and organising ahead, open communication and good time management will enable me to make the mentorship work alongside my studies.”
