MU alumna Carina Becker joins the Admissions Office

The Admissions Office is pleased to welcome MU alumna Carina Becker to her new position as Admissions and Recruiting Officer! She is a 2010 graduate of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management, an asset in her position where she will work primarily with undergraduate applicants, processing applications, interviewing potential Modulians, informing students and parents about the university, and assisting recruitment.

Carina is back in her home town of Vienna, Austria, after gaining international experience for her career. She began her worklife after completing the two-year ICHM ‘’Diploma in International Hotel Management Degree’’ at the Tourism College MODUL in 2007.

First she headed to Germany with her newly acquired hotel management skills to become part of the preopening team of Wombats Hostels in Berlin, and then went international at the the Hyatt hotel chain in Chicago.

After one year of management training as Front Office agent, Guest Relations Manager, and VIP Assistant Manager she decided to return to Vienna to continue her studies at MODUL University.

Due to her previoud education in the ICHM program, she was able to complete her BBA degree in two years. During her studies she still worked for Hyatt Regency Chicago as a recruiting officer presenting the internship program of HRC (Hyatt Regency Chicago) at several schools and universities to recruit students who are interested in working abroad.

After graduation, Carina missed Chicago so much that she returned to Hyatt Regency Chicago for another year as Guest Relations Manager and Housekeeping supervisor. She was then offered to stay in Chicago with Hyatt for another three years but chose the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an internship in Brussels with HOTREC (European trade association of hotels, restaurants & Cafés in Europe) and the European Parliament where she gained excellent knowledge about the behind-the-scenes working of the hotel industry as well as very valuable experience within the European Parliament.

Following completion, she changed gears from the hotel industry to education, accepting a position at Deutsche Pop Wien, a school for music and creative education with 36 degrees in eight different specialized fields and six bachelor programs, as the Customer Service and Bachelor Student Administration Manager in Vienna. This position fulfillled her long time desire to work in the field of education field, in particular working with young people and helping them to find their right choice of education.

Her two years at Deutsche Pop inspired Carina herself to continue her studies and pursue a professional MBA at MODUL University.  As the luck would have it, a position in Admissions at MU opened up at the same time she interviewed for the MBA, and she was offed the job as Admissions and Recruiting Officer concurrently with her studies.  Building a mutally beneficial relationship, Carina is very happy to combine her experience within the field of Hotel Management and higher education in her new position, and MU is pleased to have an experienced alumna in the Admissions Office.

When not at MU, traveling the world is her biggest passion and she tries to spend as much time as possible abroad experiencing new cultures and cities as well as always searching for adventures.

Welcome Carina!
