Student-entrepreneur sweetens the pot

When it comes time for class discussions in business management courses, MU student Rochel Sarikov can contribute a unique point of view – that of an up-and-coming entrepreneur.

Sarikov, 20, is in his first semester at MU, pursuing his interest in hotels through MU’s BBA in Tourism and Hospitality Management. But that’s not all – the icing on the cake comes after class. Rochel (“Rori” to friends) and his mother also run their own bake-workshop and patisserie – “Rori’s Finest Sweets.” The 5th-district sweet spot specializes in high-quality handmade sweets, cookies, and cakes prepared daily with all-natural ingredients.

At “Rori’s Finest,” Rochel is responsible for marketing, advertisement, sales, online and social media content, human resources, graphic design, and customer orders – a tall order for a first-semester student! The principles he’s learning at MU are coming in handy with the family business as well: “When I am talking to clients, not only in the sales section but also for sustainable partnerships, I remember some of the concepts from my classes that fit perfectly to my strategy. This is helping me to raise trust in my clients and customers.”

Whether it’s the quality sweets, the “shabby chic” interior design (Rochel’s own creation), or MU management savvy, it’s working. Over 100 guests filled the Pilgramgasse location this Sunday for the “Pop Up Bakery” event, forcing the Sarikovs to remain open an extra two hours and inspiring Rochel to entertain guests on the piano. We certainly wish him as much success in his studies as he’s seeing in business!
