The Department of International Management welcomes Silvia Bressan

MODUL University Vienna would like to welcome Silvia Bressan as Assistant Professor at the Department of International Management. Originally from Treviso in northeast Italy, she earned a Master in Economics and Finance from the Ca´ Foscari University of Venice, finishing her Master thesis while on a visiting scholarship at the ICMA Center in Reading, UK.

She moved to Vienna five years ago to pursue a PhD in Finance from the Vienna Graduate School of Finance, for which she was awarded the Unicredit Leopold Gratz scholarship. During her studies she also did financial advisory activity for the World Bank in Vienna.

Silvia’s research focus is corporate finance, especially as applied to financial intermediaries and banks. Her special interest is on the structures and dynamics of the banking groups of firms, such as bank holding companies or financial conglomerates.

On her new position at MODUL University she says, ‘’I am thrilled for the opportunity to join a unique environment where I can improve my teaching and research approaches thanks to the highly international and multi-disciplinary framework. I want to develop my knowledge on finance and economics towards further areas, exploit the synergies arising inside the department, and explore relatively new fields, finding intersections with my current knowledge.’’

In addition to teaching accounting and management classes in the Bachelor programs, she will be pursuing new research topics such as studying banking decisions with respect to new emerging asset classes.

Vienna is the ideal place for Silvia, as she is able to combine her quantitative professional approach with a strong interest in art history and literature. She speaks Italian, German, and English fluently, enjoys reading up on the lives of painters and artists (the Impressionists are her preferred artists’ group), singing (as a member of the MODUL University Choir and in her free time), and exploring the eternally beautiful city of Vienna!
