Dagmar Lund-Durlacher wins Best Paper at ISTTE Conference

MU is pleased to announce that Prof. Dagmar Lund-Durlacher has been awarded with Best Paper at the annual conference of the International Society of Travel & Tourism Educators (ISTTE).

She attended the event from the 15th – 18th of October in Freiburg, Germany, alongside 80 international tourism academics from the USA, Asia, Australia and Europe. Prof. Lund-Durlacher’s award-winning paper "A holistic approach for sustainable tourism education: an example from a European University", argues that teaching sustainable tourism needs an adaption of our teaching strategies and calls for a holistic approach which involves the whole university.

An excerpt from the abstract poses that ‘’Learning for sustainable tourism is not only gaining knowledge about theories related to sustainable tourism but it also calls for changing mindsets and active engagement of the students in matters relating to more sustainable tourism futures. It is concluded that learning also takes place implicitly through the “hidden” curriculum. Staff and educators act as role models for education for sustainable development and students become inspired and motivated by their actions related to sustainability.’’

Photos from the conference are available on the ISTTE Facebook site. Next year’s conference will be held in Detroit, Michigan, and we hope to see MU represented there yet again!
