Ecological Economics

Course Description
This seminar discusses and analyses the determinants of economic growth and its consequences on the ecology of a finite planet. The main topics addressed include: 1) Economics, environment and thermodynamics: is perpetual growth possible? 2) Is perpetual economic growth desirable? 3) The reasons for growth: money and debt 4) An alternative to growth: the steady-state economy 5) Policies for a steady-state economy 6) International trade and globalization.

 

Learning Objectives
The aim of this course is to develop students' understanding of the key concepts and principles of ecological economics.  Students will also have the opportunity to get a deep understanding of a specific topic by developing a project.
