Course Description

The aim of this course is to develop students’ capability to act in real estate development and regional development situations consciously, based on a profound understanding of the principles of both disciplines and their interdependencies. The course will cover topics such as

  • Roots and principles of urban and regional planning in Europe
  • Market failure and possible solutions (theory of the public goods)
  • The shift towards steering urban and regional development and the method of strategic muddling through (chaos theory and globalization)
  • Success factors of real estate projects
  • Agents and their interest, agency models, agency problems and possible solutions (principal-agent theory)
