Dr. Sabine Sedlacek is the new Vice President for Research

Dr. Sabine Sedlacek has taken on the position of Vice President for Research at MODUL University Vienna. She has been on the faculty of the Department of Public Governance and Sustainable Development since September 15th, 2008, and became head of the department in September 2016. She is a trained geographer with a focus on spatial planning and research and holds a doctorate from the University of Vienna in the field of sustainable regional development. In 2015, she received a Venia Docendi for her postdoctoral work in the area of "Environmental Studies, Governance and Planning" from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Her research expertise is anchored in regional development and politics, environmental business and sustainability. Her current research lies in the area of governance and sustainability, with special attention to different institutional actors, among others, universities and research institutes and their governance function in the area of knowledge and technology transfer. In this regard she is concerned with the role of technology-oriented start-ups and their potential in the regional business context.

Her involvement in international academic and professional networks allow her to incorporate best practices into the daily work at MODUL University. In addition to the continuous development of the research quality and interdisciplinarity, the internationalization of the research competencies of the university is high on her agenda.

As Vice President for Research at MODUL University, Dr. Sedlacek is responsible for the implementation of the following goals:

  • Strengthening and sharpening the research profile
  • Development of basic as well as applied research
  • Intensification and expansion of existing contacts and networks at home and abroad with universities and research institutes
  • Increased research communication
