Many reasons to celebrate – Ten years of MODUL University Vienna

MODUL University Vienna is ten years old – and has much to show for it! From the beginning in 2007 with one Bachelor and a Master of Business Administration program, we’ve grown to offer twelve study programs at three international locations.

In the last decade we’ve seen the development of an international business school with specializations in international management, new media, sustainable development and tourism, and continue to add new programs. The undergraduate programs and the Master of Business Administration programs began in 2007, and by 2012 we expanded our educational portfolio to all post-secondary academic levels, including the  PhD Program in Business and Socioeconomic Sciences.

The MODUL community also gets bigger every year as we welcome new students and add for alumni to our roster. We currently count 630 graduates and 800 students proud to call themselves Modulians!

The excellent work done by MODUL Career since its founding in 2010 has seen the university forge partnerships with leading international companies and counts over 500 partners worldwide. This international network is also reflected in the academic side, with exchange opportunities at 21 partner universities across the globe.

Our faculty has been highly productive, producing 600 publications in the past decade and winning 32 awards and prizes. MODUL University Vienna was the first private university in Austria to be awarded a prestigious European Research Council Grant, and counts 14% third-party funded researchers among the faculty. All the tourism-related programs have been TedQual certified by United Nations World Tourism Organization since 2010.

In 2016, MODUL University Dubai opened its doors as the first and only Austrian university in the Middle East, and offers many of the programs at MU Vienna following the same curriculum. Our Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management is also offered in China, through a cooperation with the Nanjing Tech University Pujiang Institute.

That’s a lot of achievements to celebrate!

And celebrate we did. On Friday, October 29th, MU held an academic ceremony celebrating the Decennial of MODUL University Vienna on campus. DI Walter Ruck, President of the Wirtschaftskammer Wien opened the ceremony, which then saw addresses on ‘’Ten Years of Fruitful Cooperation between Academia and Industry’’ by Mag. Martina Maly, Managing Director of Michaeler & Partner and ‘’The First Decade of Research at MODUL University Vienna – Milestones and Prospects’’ Prof. Dr. Sabine Sedlacek, Vice President of MODUL University. Hani El Sharkawi (Sacher School of Excellence and former Head of MODUL Carer) highlighted the achievements of our graduates in a discussion on ‘’Alumni Stories – Ten Years of International Academic Excellence and Innovation’’.

Dr. Karl Wöber, President of MODUL University Vienna shared the outlook for the future, the ceremony closed with conferment of the Honorary Ring of MODUL University Vienna upon Dr. Erich Auerbäck, former Director of the Tourism College MODUL who was instrumental in the creation of MU Vienna.

The festivities then continued at Palais Ferstel in Vienna’s historic first district, with the Ten Year Anniversary Ball where students, alumni, staff, and faculty danced away the evening in elegant style.

We continue to celebrate this milestone with special items created just for the decennial – our Top Ten Vienna City Guide where the MU community shares their favourite restaurants, cafés, events, day trips and more, an updated edition of the MU Cookbook with new recipes and a new section on drinks, and a pair of socks designed to highlight our knowledge and internationality.

Happy Birthday MODUL University Vienna!
