Carolin Brewi, BBA ‘13 wins German Society for Tourism Award for her Bachelor thesis

Great success for MODUL University Vienna and our alumnus Carolin Brewi! Her bachelor thesis was awarded with distinction by the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Tourismuswissenschaft (DGT) (German Society for Tourism), which outlined possibilities for the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility principles in Vienna city hotels. Carolin, a 2013 graduate of the Bachelor in Tourism & Hospitality Management, was co-valedictorian with the second-highest grades in her graduating class.

The awards ceremony took place on March 5th as part of the Tourism Education Day of the DGT at the ITB, the largest tourism fair in the world, in Berlin. Since September 2013, she has been working as a Cluster Reservation & Front Office Agent at a hotel from the Marriott Group in Dusseldorf.

‘‘To win the DHT Science Prize was a great honour for me,’’ Carolin said. ‘’I’m especially pleased that my thesis was also seen as significant outside of my university. The awards ceremony at the ITB was a particular highlight for me, and I’m proud that my thesis convinced the jury to invite me to Berlin and award me with this very generous prize!’’

MU President Prof. Karl Wöber sees it as a great success for Carolin, which reflects on her education at MU. "Our graduates have excellent job opportunities in the labor market. Through the economics-oriented approach to their studies, the outstanding quality of training, and international networks our alumni are in demand worldwide. I heartily congratulate Carolin Brewi on behalf of the University for her recognition by the German Society of Tourism.  The fact that Ms. Brewi’s work was one of only six theses awarded distinction from a large number of submissions and that it was specifically honoured for both research design quality and mix of scientific methods applied underlines the outstanding level of quality in the degree programs at MODUL University Vienna,’’ he said.

Professor Dagmar Lund-Durlacher and MODUL Career’s Katrin Meilke were at the ITB to both congratulate Carolin in her success and lead a group of current students to the trade show.
