New sustainable tourism publications from Prof. Dagmar Lund-Durlacher

Prof. Dagmar Lund-Durlacher can add two new publications to her shelf of accomplishments, International Cases in Sustainable Travel & Tourism, a book co-edited with Dr. Pierre Benckendorff from Queensland University, Australia and a special issue of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism, co-edited with Frederic Dimanche of SKEMA Business School, France.

The first, International Cases in Sustainable Travel & Tourism, provides an “international range of outstanding new cases focused on sustainable tourism management and development, including award winners and finalists from the WTTC Tourism for Tourism Awards.’’ The book is a joint project of BEST EN (Building Excellence in Sustainable Tourism – an Education Network) and WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council).

Dr. Lund-Durlacher and Dr. Benckendorff carefully selected the case studies written by international experts in sustainable tourism to target ‘’maximum learning and teaching impact’’. The book is divided into three thematic sections: Destination Stewardship, Global Tourism Business, and Conservation & Community Benefit.  Dr. Benckendorff is also no stranger to MODUL University – he was a guest speaker at the ‘Latest Trends & Innovations in Tourism’ lecture series last year.

‘Mobilities and sustainable tourism, a special issue of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism,  stems from last year’s BEST EN Think Tank XII in Provence, France. The issue brings together a collection of papers originally presented at the Think Tank, offering insights on mobility in the context of sustainable tourism and addresses both transportation issues and aspects of social and economic mobility. Authored by leading researchers in the field including MU’s Astrid Dickinger, the collection is a valuable resource for academics and students alike.

Hot on the heels of this publication, the 2013 BEST EN gathering is set to begin in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the topic of “Engaging Communities in Sustainable Tourism Development.” From June 23-26th, MU partner Taylor’s University will host the next workshop with innovative and inspiring presentations, discussions, and activities.

BEST EN is the leading academic network for researchers and educators in the field of sustainable tourism. MU is very much engaged and takes a leading role in this network; since 2010 it had been chaired by Dr. Lund-Durlacher and supported by MU researcher and lecturer Tina Tiller as the secretary.
