Vienna Tourism Board awards MBA scholarship to young tourism professional

Since its founding in 2007, MODUL University Vienna has been in cooperation with the Vienna Tourism Board with the goals of improving networking between science and industry in the area of European City Tourism, increasing professionalism in the tourism industry, and further promoting university training for tourism in Vienna.

In addition, the Tourism Board helps to lay the foundation for a successful career in tourism though a MODUL University education. Every two years, a student characterized by outstanding performance from a CEE-country is awarded with a scholarship from the Tourist Board to cover tuition for the MBA in Tourism Management at MU to further their knowledge at one of Europe’s premier tourism-focused universities.

At the annual Vienna Tourism Conference, the 2013 scholarship was presented to Ileana Net, a tourism professional from Bucharest, by Mag.a. Renate Brauner (president of the Vienna Tourist Board, Vice-Mayor and Finance Counselor), KommR Josef Bitzinger (chairman of the Tourism and Leisure Studies of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce), Prof. Dr. Karl Wöber (president of MODUL University) and Norbert Kettner (managing director of the Vienna Tourist Board.

Since 2008, Ms. Net has been a Market Manager, and previously she held a Romanian publisher ''Raabe'' and the hypermarket ''Kaufland''. In addition, she holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Economics in Bucharest.

Born in 1983 in Borsa, she grew up in Sibiu, in western Romania. Alongside her mother tongue of Romanian, she speaks fluent German, English and Spanish.

She was selected from a total of 34 candidates from six countries - Hungary, Croatia, Lithuania, Poland , Romania and Slovenia – who took part in the competition.
