klima:aktiv and MU - Partners for a sustainable future

MU’s commitment to sustainability took another step forward last spring, becoming an official partner of klima:aktiv, Austria's initiative to spread ideas and methods for sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

An initiative undertaken by the Austrian Ministry of Life Sciences, klima:aktiv is a network and platform for companies with environmental interest. They provide the means to measure the efficiency of companies' sustainability implementations and lend a helping hand for those at the beginning of their way to sustainable acting. Joining the initiative is of a voluntary nature, but participating companies oblige themselves to adhere the high standards of sustainable acting klima:aktiv provides. The adherence is controlled and judged by experts of klima:aktiv.

On November 2nd, klima:aktiv held an official ceremony at Vienna’s Urania Observatory to welcome its new partners. Christian Hoffmann, Managing Director of MODUL University, had the honor of receiving the membership certificate from Nikolaus Berlakovich, Austrian Minister of Life Sciences. At this ceremony, leaders in this area — companies with outstanding achievements in sustainability — received ‘Pact Partner’ accolades proving their efforts including such well-known enterprises as the REWE Group, Bank Austria, and Vöslauer. These big players set a constructive example, motivating other companies as well as the younger generations to invest in measures for the future. Drawing attention to sustainability issues positively affects efforts for a cleaner environment and improves career prospects.

MODUL University Vienna is aware of our educational mission as well as our social responsibility. By becoming member of klima:aktiv we impose onto ourselves the high standards of the initiative. We will not only try to fulfill the conditions of the membership but also try to exceed them wherever possible. By doing so, MU will not only send out a strong signal into the academic world, but also educate a next generation aware of their responsibility towards society and nature.
