MODUL University in 2nd place at 2010 Sustainability Awards

MODUL University was awarded 2nd place in the category 'structural foundations' encouraging sustainable development at the 2010 Sustainability Award presented by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research for its Sustainability Committee.

The Sustainability Award was established in 2007 as the combined effort of the two ministries to encourage Austrian Colleges and Universities to focus on sustainability and to integrate sustainable concepts into their business plans and daily operations. The Sustainability Award is given biannually to the most innovative and sustainable higher education institutions in Austria.

Sustainability represents an integral part of the curricula and research agenda at MODUL University. The university operates in a manner that minimizes environmental risk and adverse effects on the environment. This includes meeting or exceeding environmental legislation and standards, using energy efficiently, conserving water, preventing pollution, minimizing waste and using recycled materials. All committee members share the goal of putting ideas of sustainability into practice. The sustainability committee acts as a steering and coordination committee and initiates the establishment of interdisciplinary workgroups focusing on individual areas of sustainability.
