Transfer Credits

Course/Internship Transfer Credit

Some BBA students come to MU having already attended a tourism/hospitality high school, a tourism/hospitality/business university, or having already completed a tourism/hospitality internship of at least 600 hours. Such students might qualify to have some of their coursework and/or their internship transferred to their curriculum at MODUL University Vienna.

To have previous coursework or an internship transferred for credit, it is important that eligible students apply by pre-determined deadlines to allow enough time for the administration involved. Once an application and corresponding documents have been submitted, the Dean of the BBA program will decide if the course/internship can be transferred.

Procedure for crediting academic courses:

  1. Fill out the Transfer Credit Application Form – Academic Courses
  2. Collect the necessary documentation to support your application – proof of the grades attained (academic transcript) and a description of the course content and reading requirements (course syllabus).
  3. Send your form and documents to: michael.jordan@modul.ac.at.
  4. The Dean of the program will assess your application.
  5. If your application is successful, you will be notified by MU's Academic Office. If your application has been unsuccessful, you will be notified by email.

Eligibility: Your application will be considered on the basis of how relevant your prior coursework is to the course syllabus at MODUL University. The grades you achieved, the level and language of the course, and the amount of contact hours will also be considered.

Submission Deadlines:
Request for credit transfer- September 25, 2012 @5pm

Completed requests for course credit transfer must be submitted to Mr. Michael Jordan, BBA program manager: michael.jordan@modul.ac.at. Turning in the application/documents by this deadline is important, as the outcome can affect which courses you’ll need to register for during Orientation Week.

Important: Please submit your application as soon as possible after being admitted to MU Vienna!

Procedure for crediting an internship:

  1. Fill out the Transfer Credit Application Form – Internship
  2. Collect the necessary documentation to support your application – internship report and work certificate confirming where you worked, your duties and the period of work, and a reference letter from your employer.
  3. For further information on the requirements of the internship report, please read the internship manual
  4. Send your form and documents to: hani.elsharkawi@modul.ac.at
  5. The head of MODUL Career and the Dean of the program will assess your application. Original copies of your work certificates must be presented before final confirmation
  6. You will be notified by MODUL CAREER whether your application has been successful or not. If your application is successful, the ECTS points will be entered into the grade book during your 4th semester.

Eligibility: The application of each student will be considered on the basis of how relevant the prior work experience is to the internship semester at MODUL University Vienna. The following criteria have to be met in order to be eligible for internship accreditation:

  • Practical experience already completed as part of the curriculum requirement of a vocational secondary education (e.g. Höhere Lehranstalt für Tourismus, Kolleg, HBLA, etc.). Exceptions can be made for candidates with extensive work experience (i.e. 2 or more years of full time employment in the tourism or hospitality industry)
  • A minimum of 600 hours work experience completed consecutively within one company, or 2 consecutive work experiences of min. 300 hours completed within two companies.
  • Full time employment during the internships
  • Work experience must be completed within the tourism or hospitality industry.
  • Internship has to be completed prior to commencement of BBA program

Deadline: The sooner, the better, however completed applications for internship credit transfer may be handed in to MODUL Career at any time during your first semester at MU. (If you haven’t yet completed an internship of this nature, don’t worry! There is an entire semester dedicated to this later during your studies at MU.)
