MSc in Sustainable Development Management and Policy

Studying at Modul University Vienna has been one of the most transformative decisions of my life. The programme has given me not just academic knowledge, but a genuine sense of purpose.
That became especially clear the day I visited the United Nations Office at Vienna. Walking through an institution where global conversations on sustainable development actually take place, I felt the weight and the thrill of everything I had been learning in the classroom. Concepts like sustainability transitions, circular economy, environmental economics, and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) were no longer abstract,  they were alive in those corridors.
That connection between theory and real-world practice doesn't happen by accident. It is shaped by the faculty at Modul. Professors like Sabine Sedlacek bring a depth of expertise and genuine commitment to the field that pushes you to think more critically, engage more deeply, and aspire more boldly. Their teaching goes beyond transferring knowledge; it builds the kind of analytical rigour and passion that prepares you to contribute meaningfully to global challenges.
Meeting professionals at the UN who are working on international environmental and development initiatives reminded me exactly why I chose this path. Sustainability is not just my area of study,  it is a field I am deeply committed to, and one where I hope to make a lasting contribution. My long-term aspiration is to work within the United Nations system, supporting initiatives on climate resilience, circular economy practices, and evidence-based environmental policy.
Modul University has given me the foundation, the inspiration, and the network to pursue that vision. I am grateful for every challenge, every conversation, and every professor who has invested in shaping the professional I am becoming.

Modul University Vienna offers a diverse and multicultural environment, high-qualified professors, small classes, and excellent curriculum. Coming from a small country in Central America, El Salvador. MU welcomed me with open arms and made Vienna feel like home. I am currently pursuing my 5th semester and I am looking forward on starting my specialization in Entrepreneurship and Leadership. This will help me gain more knowledge in decision-making, teamwork and leadership, learn how to build my own business, and cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset. Some advice for upcoming students: make as many friends as possible, go to the trips and events the university offers, and enjoy your university journey.

I believe that In the field of international management, diversity is not just a buzzword; it's a driving force. Here at MU, diversity isn't just a concept; it's our strength. It creates a unique environment that enriches our learning experiences, broadens our horizons, and prepares us for the globalized world of management.

I chose this university because I want to establish my own business after graduation from MU. "The quality of education and friendly environment" were the first words they told me when I came to visit the university, and it was true. Spring mornings on the balcony facing the view of the city of Vienna is one of those experiences that I enjoy every day in the university. I came to this university for my third bachelor's degree, and now I am officially working as a photographer and ambassador of the university. The university trusted me, and I always enjoy the fact that my work environment and my studies are the same.

Working with computers has always been my strong suit. I enjoyed being the "IT guy" throughout my life and no matter what the task was, if it involved many interactions with a computer, I would do that task well. I have been working as a software engineer since the age of 16, developing software across various platforms, including iOS, Android, web, and backend. However, as much as being a software engineer is empowering, in the realm of IT, AI stands out as the trendiest topic. At the time of applying, I was working on a startup project that required me to know more about building machine learning models. Modul was the only university in Vienna that offered bachelor’s degree data science in English. Nevertheless, I am delighted to have become a part of MU. Apart from providing a great course to study data science, it has afforded me opportunities to connect with exceptional individuals, engage in challenging projects, and showcase my talents beyond classroom assignments and topics.

The Sustainable Development, Management & Policy program very successfully tackles all the aspects of sustainable development; social, economic, political, and environmental, and relates them to each other. This provides graduates with the required skills, knowledge, and way of thinking to perform above expectations in their professional careers and have a competitive advantage over others in the field.

Modul University offers a fantastic learning environment with diverse international connections. As one of the first students in the "Applied Data Science" program, I've already gained valuable knowledge and hands-on experience from exceptional professors. The best part about our university is the small classrooms. I am now starting my third semester as an exchange student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. The journey ahead promises to be full of rewarding experiences and personal growth.

I am currently pursuing a BBA in Tourism and Hospitality with a specialization in Tourism and Event Management at Modul University. I discovered Modul through a close friend, and its program aligned with my passion for event planning. Although leaving Hong Kong and coming to Europe was challenging, as it meant being away from my family for the first time and experiencing a new continent, I have received a huge amount of support from my loved ones and the university staff. Their encouragement has fueled my motivation to excel academically. I really like Modul's student events, organized trips, approachable lecturers and staff, the study areas, and the view of Vienna. I am immensely grateful to everyone who has supported me on this transformative journey, as their constant support has significantly enhanced my experience at Modul University.

After completing my high school diploma in Austria, I felt overwhelmed by the variety of opportunities and. I was certainly unsure about making an immediate decision about my future. How could I possibly know, at the age of 18, what I wanted to do for the rest of my life? So, I decided to go abroad to the US as an au pair, an experience I truly cherish. It allowed me to improve my English skills, explore new places, gain independence, and discover the best version of myself.

During that year abroad, I had the chance to participate in various university classes in Chicago and LA. I dived into different subjects, and what struck me was my fascination with the business environment. I realized that a management degree would provide me with a broad spectrum of career options across various departments. When I returned to Austria, my expectations were high and I was seeking a university with an international atmosphere, an open-minded community, and an interesting curriculum entirely in English.

My research led me to various universities in Vienna, but each one seemed to have a drawback, whether it was too theoretical, lacking practical insights, or not sufficiently international. Some universities had enormous classes with over 500 students, which didn't align with my communicative personality, and I didn't want to feel like just a number. Then, I discovered Modul University Vienna and attended their open day. I was genuinely impressed by their programs, had enlightening conversations with fellow students, appreciated their smaller, interactive classes, valued their focus on hands-on teaching, and found their curriculum highly informative. To my delight, their programs also integrated internships as part of the study experience. I thought it might be too good to be true, but my initial impression proved to be accurate. Modul University was the perfect fit for me.

During my Bachelor studies, I gained knowledge across various relevant fields, relished the class sizes, engaged in direct face-to-face discussions with professors, and benefited from a competent and supportive faculty. I joined a student club, tackled challenges, took advantage of tutoring services when courses became difficult, completed an internship at a prestigious international luxury company, and forged lifelong friendships with people from diverse backgrounds, some of whom I had the pleasure of visiting on the other side of the world. Most importantly, I acquired the knowledge necessary to thrive in the job market and embark on my own business career, armed with valuable networking strategies from my degree at Modul University Vienna.

Throughout the program, I had the opportunity to explore many of my passions and consider how to integrate them into the working world. And guess what, I had such a fantastic experience at this University that I also decided to pursue my master's degree immediately after completing my bachelor's degree. I am currently in my third semester of the MSc in Management program and can't help but wish that time would slow down. What I enjoy the most is that the MSc program is more time flexible, even more practical, the networking opportunities are higher, and the enrichment courses are led by managing directors and other professionals which prepare you perfectly for the working world.

Katharina Vilimsky

The most valuable experience during my studies was discovering that learning doesn’t have to be dull and dry; on the contrary, it can be exciting and engaging, significantly contributing to personal development. The courses at Modul University not only reinforced theoretical knowledge and practical application but also emphasized the importance of curiosity and continuous learning. I was able to build an extensive international network with both fellow students and prominent companies.

I find that Modul University creates a very welcoming learning environment. Beyond the modern campus at Kahlenberg with its stunning view over Vienna, I particularly appreciate the small class sizes that actively encourage interaction and connection with fellow students. The excellent and motivated professors play a crucial role in fostering this environment. Additionally, the university organizes numerous events and hosts a variety of student clubs, all of which contribute to a strong sense of community.

One of my best memories from my time at Modul University Vienna was working on a group project in one of our key management courses. The project required us to collaborate with peers from different countries, each bringing their unique perspectives and expertise to the table. The challenge was not just in solving the complex business problem we were given, but in navigating the dynamics of an international team. The academic curriculum at Modul is designed to push you out of your comfort zone, encouraging you to think critically and approach problems with a global mindset.

My advice to current students at Modul University Vienna is to fully immerse themselves in the international environment and actively engage with the diverse community around them. Take advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with peers from different cultural backgrounds, as this will help you develop a global perspective that is invaluable in today’s interconnected world. Don’t hesitate to participate in group projects, discussions, and extracurricular activities that push you out of your comfort zone.

What I love most in this unique concept is the combination: mornings that sharpen how you think about the world, and afternoons that challenge you to build, pitch, and solve problems like a start-up. You leave with new skills, a stronger network, and a clearer sense of where you fit in an international, fast-changing environment - plus the kind of Vienna memories that make the learning stick.

MSc in Management and BSc in Applied Data Science

I chose MU particularly for its focus on international business and its diverse student body. The university has exceeded my expectations by providing access to various industry professionals and alumni, thereby giving opportunities to foster relationships in most business-related fields.
The curriculum is designed with a strong emphasis on real world applications and encourages collaboration and teamwork. This has allowed me to work with classmates who have diverse backgrounds and career aspirations, providing a foundation of contacts that will be beneficial in my future career.
MU fosters an open and kind community where students are encouraged to engage in events, guest lectures, workshops, and clubs. This has provided me with opportunities to broaden my perspective on different cultural learning backgrounds and connect with others, significantly enriching my academic journey and personal development.
My advice would be to actively engage in networking opportunities from day one. Attend events, join clubs, and reach out to alumni and professors. Every connection can open doors. MU's diverse professional environment not only enhances learning but could also provide a robust network that could play a crucial role in your career advancement.
