How to apply

Simply follow MU’s regular application procedure for an exchange semester – funding eligibility will be assessed for every student who applies and decided on a case by case basis, depending on the volume of applications per institution. MU has partners in Europe, the USA, Mexico and Asia across all study programs.

Recommend time for an exchange:

  • Undergraduates: 3rd, 4th, or 5th semester
  • Graduates: any semester (except the first)
Students who apply for exchange at any one of MU’s existing exchange partners will have the opportunity to receive Pannonia Program funding. The exact amount of funding will depend on where the student applies to study.
For students wishing to participate in an internship abroad with a participating employment partner, they can apply to receive funding.
*In some cases, and depending on application volume and interest, funding may be divided between students.

Deadlines

It is important to apply for nomination well in advance, especially for partners outside of the EU. Deadlines vary and are subject to change, but usually follow this pattern:

For exchange in the following FALL semester

  • For global partners: March to mid-April
  • For EU partners: March – June
For exchange in the following SPRING semester
  • For global partners: September to early-October
  • For EU partners: October – November

Background

The programme was developed in partnership with Hungarian universities to strengthen international relations in the higher education sector. It is similar to the Erasmus+ Programme as a lump-sum grant is provided to model-changed universities that can be used from 1st June 2024 to implement student, teacher, researcher and staff mobilities and teacher exchanges on the basis of new bilateral contracts.
The Hungarian Government is committed to reach 20,000 outgoing mobilities until 2030, and this can only be achieved if more funding is allocated to the higher education sector. As the Council Implementing Decision is still in effect, it was imperative to provide outgoing mobility opportunities to the model-changed universities. As a consequence of the Council Decision, 21 Hungarian universities, which comprise 60% of students and staff of the Hungarian higher education sector, are limited in international mobility.
