Short BIO
Roman Egger is Full Professor at the School of Tourism and Service Management at MODUL University Vienna. He earned two doctoral degrees?one in Communication Sciences and one in Sociology?from the University of Salzburg. In addition to his academic role, he serves as CEO of SmartVisions, an applied research and consulting company specializing in Artificial Intelligence solutions for the tourism industry.
His research focuses on Smart Tourism, Artificial Intelligence, digital transformation, and the ethical implementation of AI in tourism contexts. He has published in leading journals such as Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, and the Journal of Travel Research, and is the author or editor of more than twenty books.
Roman collaborates closely with destinations, policymakers, and industry partners on AI-driven innovation projects and has contributed significantly to advancing data-oriented and digital strategies in European tourism.
