Student Exchange Opportunities

Student Exchange Opportunities

WHAT IS STUDENT EXCHANGE?

Student exchange allows students from different universities to spend a semester at another university to diversify their experience and studies. We offer the opportunity for students from other universities to come and spend a semester with us in Vienna in exchange for a chance for our students to study abroad outside Austria.

WHY DO IT?

Embarking on a student exchange program opens up a world of possibilities for you.

It's not just about attending classes in a different country, different university, and different environment; it can be a life-changing experience that can enrich your academic journey and shape you as an individual. By immersing yourself in a new culture, you gain a broader perspective, develop a deeper understanding of global issues, and cultivate invaluable life skills.

The exchange will foster your personal growth, independence, and resilience, while also expanding your professional network. It's an adventure that will bring you new friendships, unforgettable memories, and a sense of global citizenship.

A student exchange abroad truly enhances your student experience, adds value to your degree, and prepares you for a diverse and interconnected world.

PLANNING AHEAD

COME TO MU

We have many students from other universities come and join us here at MU for a semester. We have 2 semester starts per year, one in Spring (February) and one in Fall (September). To apply as an exchange student, you must first be a student at one of our partner universities and have been nominated for an exchange by them.

Please contact your University’s International Affairs Coordinator or equivalent for information about their nomination procedures. Once we receive your nomination, you will be contacted by MU's International Affairs Coordinator to proceed with your student exchange application.

As an exchange student, tuition fees are paid as normal to your home university and you are not required to pay any additional tuition fees to MU due to an agreement between the two institutions.

MU STUDENTS

Planning for BSc/BBA Students

Students are advised to plan on going in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th semester of their studies. When planning your courses in advance, do not take enrichment courses at MU before going on exchange. At the partner universities, students are most likely able to take courses equivalent to enrichment courses.

For more information about exchange within Europe, check out the Erasmus Student Network Guide.

Short-track students are not able to go on exchange - a minimum of 130 ECTS have to be completed at MU.

For more information, please contact the Academic Office.

Planning for MSc students

Exchanges for MSc students will be developed over the course of the future based on demand and interest.

For more information, please contact the Academic Office

Application Deadlines

For SPRING Semester Exchanges - June 30th

For FALL Semester Exchanges - January 15th

Housing Platform For Exchange Students

As a student of Modul University you can use www.housinganywhere.com. Before leaving for your exchange, rent out your room to incoming exchange students using this platform.

You will avoid paying double rent and make sure that you will get back your room when you return. In order to use the service you will have to use your student email address. Make sure that you have the permission from your landlord.

Since Housing Anywhere is an international student housing platform you can also book your room using the Secure Booking Service before arriving at your exchange destination.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Step 1: Choose Your Destination

Explore partner universities and their exchange programs. Visit their websites to find suitable options based on your exchange preferences and academic year schedules. Contact the respective MU liaison officer (a designated MU faculty member) for more information. Plan your stay accordingly and discuss course options at the partner university.

Step 2: Apply for an Exchange Nomination

Download the "Application for Student Exchange" form and submit it to the Academic Office along with your CV, a motivation letter, and any required documents. The selection process considers factors like available spots, academic performance, and extracurricular engagement.

Step 3: Apply to the Partner University and Credit Transfer

Once nominated, apply officially to the partner university and arrange for credit transfer. Download the "Application for Course Equivalency Assessment" form. Consult with your liaison officer to select courses, fulfill MU curriculum requirements, and ensure credit transfer. Submit the form before your departure.

Step 4: Confirm Details and Arrangements

Connect with the international office at your chosen partner university for further details on visa requirements, living costs, and accommodation options. Seek assistance from the Academic Office for guidance and support throughout the process. Communicate any early departure plans to professors.

Step 5: Finalize Credit Transfer after the Exchange

Upon returning, finalize the credit transfer process. Download the "Application for Credit Transfer" form and provide details of the courses attended at the partner university. Include the partner university's transcript of records and course syllabi. Submit the completed form to the Academic Office, who will approve the credit transfer, and the credits will be transferred to your MU Vienna curriculum.
